Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft, developed by Blizzard Entertainment (the creators of Starcraft the original eSports pioneer), is an online strategy collectible card game (CCG). It is free for anyone to download and play, with optional purchases for more cards to add to your deck.
Hearthstone is an online turn-based collectible card game, one player versus another. Each Hearthstone match is a one-versus-one battle between two opponents. Gameplay in Hearthstone is turn-based, with players taking turns to play cards from their hand, casting spells, equipping weapons, or summoning ‘minions’ to do battle on their behalf. Games may be between two players, or one human player and one computer-controlled opponent.
There are different game modes, but the core experience is pretty much the same. You start off the game with a set of free basic cards, but as you play and win matches, you gain rarer and more powerful cards through card packs or as rewards for competitive matches against other players online. The game also offers gold, rewarding you for completing random daily quests. Micropayments to buy booster packs are also an option, especially if you are not willing to grind through hundreds of matches, and prefer to straight out buy card packs to build up your card decks quickly, or buy hero skins.
Hearthstone does not allow players to trade cards with other players, instead relying on giving players the ability to ‘disenchant’ unwanted cards into a resource called Arcane dust. This dust can then be used to create or ‘craft’ new cards determined by the player.
