Fortnite is an action building game developed by Epic Games where there are two game modes; an online a 4-player cooperative shooter-survival game where you need to claim and build forts on your land, find and create crazy weapons, traps all to protect your towns that have been left empty by the strange zombies that rise during Storm.

Fortnite Battle Royale, is the mode, that people have heard of or played themselves. It’s a free-to-play battle royale mode of up to 100 players who fight each other. The catch here is that they all fight in an increasingly-smaller space (not unlike the Hunger Games movies that came out) to be the last person standing. The cultural phenomenon has already drawn in +125 million players, and earning hundreds of millions of dollars each month…Not bad for a free game!

In the game’s first year, Epic Games, announced a $100 million prize pool for official tournaments which surpasses Dota 2 who previously held the top spot (which is mainly through crowdfunding and in-game purchases). Either way that’s a huge investment in their esports friendly game.
